When I contacted them they insisted that since I owned the computor I was responsible for anything that occurred on it. I protested that I didn't think they had any legal precedence to make such an assertion but it didn't make any difference. I have just used the Brute Force Uninstaller and it seems to have worked to remove the system. I am sure that what they are doing cannot be legal.

You are quite right. They would have no grounds to take you to court unless they could prove you were the only person who had access to that computer. Even if they could prove that, they would still need to prove that you knowingly entered into a legally binding contract with them and they will not be able to prove that if you didn't, so please don't worry about them

The important thing is not to give them any additional personal details like your name, address or telephone number

Not only that, but it is clear they do not want to appear in the spotlight of the courtroom.  They have, I gather, threatened the bailiffs on occasion - but they'd need to know where you live to act upon such a threat, wouldn't they?  And there have been no cases of them carrying out their threats from what I know.

In fact, that's just about the extent of their activity:  bullying and threatening, backed up by a rather vexatious bit of software which causes a lot of stress to individuals and families.  Lovely company, aren't they?
