I have just received a letter from Oriel, I do not know when it arrived as I have been on vacation for the past week. The letter is dated April 2009, unfortunately they have my name on the letter.
I have been in communications with Platte regarding the proof that they have, that I downloaded the software onto my computer. But like everyone else I have not received and answer from Platte.
The main question that I have to everyone is this; how can Oriel collect any outstanding amounts if the company that they are collecting for has ceased trading within the UK? Is this another scare tactic from another corrupt company to try and lever the money out of the innocent person.
I am thinking about calling Oriel to explain the situation, has anybody tried this and what success did you have?
The two concerns that I have is a) could this affect my credit rating (as I have a near perfect score and I do not want this to change)? b) could this get all nasty involving the courts etc?
I look forward to hearing from any of you with advise.
Regards Sailorsam
At the moment Sam the only advice I can give is to request Oriel to provide the proof of the debt. A few people have done this and as yet have to hear back from Oriel.
It is possible that they have simply accepted the job of collecting the debts for Platte but not actually picked up the evidence of the debts. Maybe they are relalising that the proof is rather ambigious and probably won't hold up in court. I for one would welcome this going to court.
