Dear Sirs,
I wish to make a formal complaint about the activities of a company known as Platte International, also as Platte Media, who are the parent company of a number of pornographic websites, such as Getfilmsnow, Sexxxpassport, and others.
Because of the business model employed by this company, any minor is able to readily access online content of an adult nature without the need to provide any verification of his/her age, or without having to provide credit or debit card details, themselves a form of deterrent for the curious child.
The company appears to feel the entire onus of protecting children from the content of their sites rests upon parents or other adult owners of computers, regardless of whether children have regular access to that computer. As a consumer, I disagree with this.

As a parent, I consider it my responsibility to protect my child when using computer equipment in my home from the possibility of accessing disturbing or inappropriate images, but I would not consider that any non-parent should be mindful of this in the case of their own personal computer. Therefore, whether or not I take sufficient precautions to protect my child from such websites, I know that they are vulnerable if they happen to use an unprotected computer. This is an unnecessary risk, since it is well within the means of this company to make their content unavailable to children by the use of standard sign up processes.
Furthermore, and to my incredulity, I discover that Platte International would consider myself, or any other computer owner, to be liable for payment of a significant amount of money if a child happens to access one of their websites. I do not feel that this operates in the interests of the consumer at all, although it clearly provides financial benefit for the company in question.

As I have no children living with me in my home, I do not regard it as encumbent upon me to consider taking precautions to protect children from such websites, however I now know that they are vulnerable if they happen to use an unprotected computer. I therefore request that the OFT/Trading Standards look into the matter of access by minors onto these websites as it relates to the business model currently sanctioned by the OFT and operated by Platte International.
I would ask you please to contact me to let me know what action you intend to take, to log this complaint against this company, and also to let me know if you have received other complaints and, if so, an indication of the number of complaints received thus far.
