In a fit of - 'just give me the details to get rid of the software' - I gave Platte my name and address and have now received a letter saying if I don't pay the ubiquitous £29.99 I will be taken to Leeds County Court and will be subject to late payment compensation of £40 plus costs.
Has anyone actually been taken to court by Platte Media? It does sound as if it is not something they would be too keen on doing, but I obviously don't want to get clobbered.

I knew Platte was a scam organisation as soon as their rep argued with me about a "subscription", I never knowingly signed for and have never used. I too was threatened and I told the Platte rep they could do their worst. I have not and will not pay (very sorry to note some have paid), nor can I believe any UK Court would uphold such a claim. Taking someone to Court would not only be uneconomic, it would expose Platte/MBS to an Order for costs and believe me, a judge would use the opportunity to make such an order.
The last time I telephoned Platte, they asked for my physical address and I refused to divulge it. I asked for theirs and was given a UK Box No and an address in Orlando, Florida, USA. My only remaining problem is how to get rid of the recurring icon and small notice in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, inviting a call to "uninstall for free", which is just another ploy to get you to call so they can repeat their demand. No way!

Hi Scumhater

Yes I gave Platte my address, I want to see how brave they are going to be in taking me to court....

Yes again Oriel contacted me via letter on the 24th November 2008 and I havent heard from them since.
Mind you I did phone to tell them that there chasing the wrong person and that the dispute is with Platte, but if they want to persue this I will see them in court as well.....

But the last contact with anyone dealing with Platte was in November last year....

Hello Scumhater,

There are many victims on this forum who would relish taking Platte through the Courts.

So why don't we do it?

Let us serve them with a "writ" and demand that they defend their claims through the Courts.

My guess is that it would not go to Court ...... Platte would not like their business scam to be exposed.

Do not rely on the OFT or your MP.... they are totally useless... They are Government personnel and departments looking after their pensions and not really interested in looking after you!!

Copy of post i put on separate section;-

Received a chaser from Platte in the post to "THE COMPUTER USER"
I have not received a letter from Oriel but gave them a call to find out more about them.
I didnt give any details but the guy there was just as abrupt as Platte are. After a "nice" discussion I was told that Trading Standards have allowed Platte to continue so they are within their rights to get their money!!!!! F***ing disgusted by this.
I will await this letter from Oriel and then contact them to say please issue court proceedings against me but will also not provide a name. This way you have given them an ultimatum and cannot increase charges (or so I have been made aware). Now please correct me if I am wrong but which court is going to issue proceedings against "THE COMPUTER USER"? They need a name at least.
At this point I have contacted Watchdog and also considering going to the Police as its Fraud. No one else seems to be helping not even peoples MP's or Trading Standards.

I would love us all to expose this company and also take down Oriel if they are so arrogant that they dont realise they are helping scammers !!!
I have suggested this to Mike Pollitt but correctly he has stated under which Law?
If we do we need to build a big case and everyone join together. However, the fortunate ones who did not give any details and just got rid of the icon are fine but the unfortunate ones who did then its us that really need to club together. Its all good and well me suggesting this but I would not know where to start. Any ideas?
