hi swampy, thanks for keeping us posted. I would really like to look into the issue your girlfriend is having with her pc, hopefully to help you/her keep her data, but also to see if this issue is related to platte, would you be able to take a note of any error messages given. Something has been confusing me about this whole situation is that on plattes website, they say "In line with our Terms and Conditions, you may uninstall your Platte Media software at anytime." yet you have had to go to such lengths, its rediculous in my opinion. anyway, good luck in contacting your solicitors and keep us posted. jon

Hi Jon & ForumFriend
I`ll reply to you both in 1 post
Jon:-
So far as I can gather theres only 1 file coming up as knackered..... Shes running Windows ME ( dont laugh ) She`ll be upgrading her OS after all this with XP...
The file is vmm32.vxd If theres anymore I wouldnt know about them bcos it stops loading up at that error message.... She has tried loading up into safe mode but that doesnt do anything, except hangs the computer. She tried normal mode and thats when the error comes up.......
If you can unistall there software at anytime, how come there isnt a uninstall for it and when you try the add remove programs it doesnt show up (well it didnt on my girlfriends computer) Plus if you do manage to remove it, you wont remove all of it...........
Forumfriend :-
My girlfriend got a phone call from her local trading standards yesterday, she explained to them what has been going on.
If I could remember what they said to her ( I`d be ok, old age setting in BRAIN DEAD ) Think they told her, there is little they can do, but they will be looking into it............
mmmmmmm
I will try and find out more what they said to her, only prob know her phonelines buggered up and her mobiles turned off ( typical, innit just ) Steve

Hi steve, had a look around for info relating to that file, even on the microsoft support pages they say "if the file is not found, windows will need to be re-installed" hardly helpful according to microsoft, the cause of the issue is This behavior can occur if the Windows\System folder is missing or renamed, or if the PATH line in the Autoexec.bat file is missing or does not include the Windows\System folder. im not 100% sure this was caused totally by the platte software, but i can test it myself and see what happens, just need to dig out an ME disk lol

Steve: Do pass on the information to me and I'll take it up with the Office of Fair Trading. I can get stuff through to the person who has been working on the issue over the past year or more. Your girlfriend was right to take it to Trading Standards.
If you want to do this privately, use the email box by my name.

You can use, pass on all the info from my posts on your forum to the OFT ...........
My girlfriend will be formatting her hard drive tomorrow ( Iv gotta talk her throught all that as well )
Ah well such is life
Iv told everyone who I know in chat, to keep away from Platte Media, Get Films Now. I warned them what will happen to there computers and the hassle you have to go through to get rid of this trojan infected software Platte Media is putting out..........
Im thinking of getting intouch with the local and national papers to tell them to warn other internet users to stay away from them ..........
I think everyone else should do the same
Platte Media wont be happy tho
Tuff s???
If they wanna take it further by all means, with me not my girlfriend......... If you pick on my girlfriend you have me to contend with, and there will be hell to pay. Dont mess with me........... regards
Steve

Update :-
Heres one for the computer tekkies ( that includes me, this 1s way over my head )
After a few attempts at trying to remove the software explained in the letter they sent, which was a waste of time.........
My Girlfriend has tried bootng up her computer to go into windows, its now saying something about system cannot be found....... ( mmm very interesting )
She has tried formatting her hard drive to get shut of this software, upto now she has tried 4 times with a boot disk to format the drive...
Its now saying C: cannot be found ( mmmmmmm)
She has tried booting from cd that cannot be found ( mmmmm)
I have just spent the last 2 hours talking her through this, no luck
Iv explained how to change the boot sequence from HD to CD and to floppy, with going into the Bios, nothing..............
Is there anyway this Platte Media company can do a hardware ban, rendering your computer useless as a chocolate fireguard......... If this is the case, they need closing down taking to court and sued
Any help would be gratefull, as she doesnt want to go out and by either a new computer or the bits to get it up and running again.........
She does have another base unit with motherboard, Iv told her to transfer everything from the knackered unit into this 1, If it doesnt work after that they deff have done an hardware ban.........
If they have I will deff be taking them to court over this...........
I SEE THEY HAVE NOT REPLIED TO MY POST ADDRESSED TO THEM I WONDER WHY NOT......... Regards Steve

Swampyuk
In regards to not getting the files off, this is strange, i managed to get all of them offon my parents pc but it had to be done in safe mode otherwise they kept coming back.
As for hardware ban, i cant see how, unless there was something extra in that code you were sent which renders the HD useless but if so this would only be the harddrive i cant think of anyway it would render the motherboard/cpu useless, you say your GF has an extra pc, is there anychance you can guide her through setting the HD out of the knackered pc to slave and getting her to install it in the extra pc, boot that up then do a total format of the drive by right clicking over the said drive in "my Computer" , once thats completed set it back to master then stick it back in the knackered pc and try to reinstall windows, that way anyfiles will be deleted, hopefully this should work, but it will need to be set on slave otherwise it will try to boot as a master. Failing that if the harddrive in the extra pc is not a bad size she could stick that one in the current pc and reinstall a fresh copy of windows on to that.
hope this helps Roy

Update as from today
Hi to all at Anti Platte (Crappie) Media Gang
Just thought I would let you all know.

Funny thing is............
I didnt go on there site to sign up for anything (LOL)
Take ME to court then for failure to pay you, just as long as you can prove it was my computer what accessed your site and I bet you cant...........
BECAUSE IT WASNT ME (LOL)
har har har Platte Media Go give your head a wobble ..........
I hope ALL the film companies take you to court n sue the living daylights outta you........
[Threat removed by moderator]
TAKE ME TO COURT...........
If anyones got Google Earth you should trace the Post Codes.....
regards Steve
Note to Steve: Due to the extreme sensitivity of Platte and threats of legal action from their solicitors, we don't allow threats to remain posted. Hence the deletion. Sorry!
